What's in Your Wallet?

I was just reading about the latest online credit card theft. It involved about 130 MILLION credit card numbers. That's right, 130 MILLION.

No wonder my Credit Card company sent me a new card a few months ago.

It was also interesting where he got the Credit Card numbers. He and his co-conspirators targeted 7-Eleven, Hannaford Brothers Co. (supermarket chain), T.J. Maxx, Barnes & Noble, Sports Authority, and OfficeMax. They hacked into these companies and put what is called a "sniffer" program in to locate and steal credit card numbers. These numbers weren't from a web-based shopping program. They came from the companies' corporate websites.

A lot has been said recently about Credit Card companies needing to be more secure against hacking. Well in this case, it shows that regular companies need to be more secure and do a better job protecting their customer's credit card numbers.
